Our work
Measuring civic health
For nearly twenty years, NCoC has led the effort to measure America’s civic health through its signature Civic Health Index.
Supporting democracy’s data
The Census Quality Reinforcement Task Force is a non-partisan, multi-disciplinary learning community for research, education, and coordination around census data quality and fitness for use: apportionment, redistricting, and the distribution of federal funds.
Understanding our digital civic discourse
NCoC’s Algorithmic Transparency Institute helps researchers, journalists, and civic engagement practitioners analyze how our online conversation impacts our democracy.

Our history
Born from the civic spirit of WWII and chartered by Congress in 1953, NCoC has evolved from hosting naturalization ceremonies and sponsoring The Freedom Train to measuring national civic health and developing programs that meet today’s civic challenges.
For over 75 years we’ve convened diverse voices, from Presidents Truman and Eisenhower to Justice Ginsburg and Senator McCain, all united by the belief that democracy requires participation.
